A Shopify migration is two projects at once: moving data, and protecting the traffic and revenue the old store already earns. Most failed migrations get the first part roughly right and neglect the second: redirects are missing or point to the home page, customers cannot log in, and organic sales dip for months. We plan both parts together from day one.

We handle migrations from a few dozen products on Wix to large Magento catalogs with years of order history. The approach is the same: inventory everything, map every field and URL, test on a staging store, and only switch DNS once the numbers match. Migration is one of several services from our Shopify development agency team, so the same people can build the new theme and support the store afterwards.

What Our Shopify Migration Service Includes

  • Data audit and mapping. A field-by-field map of products, variants, options, metafields, collections, customers, orders, blog posts and pages from your current platform to Shopify.
  • Catalog restructuring. Fixing messy variants, duplicate products and inconsistent tags during the move, rather than carrying old problems into a new store.
  • Theme build or setup. A new theme designed for Shopify, or a close rebuild of your current design, handled by our Shopify theme development team.
  • URL redirect map. Every product, category, page and post URL mapped to its new Shopify address and imported as a redirect.
  • Integrations and apps. Replacing plugins and extensions with Shopify apps or native features, and reconnecting ERP, 3PL, email and review tools.
  • Tracking and launch. GA4, Google Tag Manager and ad platform tracking rebuilt on Shopify, a staged cutover, and post-launch monitoring.

Migrating From Your Current Platform

WordPress and WooCommerce to Shopify

A WordPress to Shopify migration usually involves the most URL changes. WooCommerce products sit at /product/ and categories at /product-category/, while Shopify uses /products/ and /collections/. Blog posts move from the site root into a Shopify blog path. For a WooCommerce to Shopify migration we also export custom fields from plugins such as Advanced Custom Fields into Shopify metafields, so specifications and size guides are not lost.

Magento to Shopify

Magento stores often have configurable products with many attributes, tiered pricing and several store views. In a Magento to Shopify migration we decide which attributes become variant options, which become metafields and which become filters, and map customer groups to tags or Shopify B2B where that applies. Old URLs frequently end in .html, and each one needs its own redirect.

BigCommerce to Shopify

BigCommerce to Shopify moves are usually cleaner on data, since both platforms use similar product and variant models. The work concentrates on custom fields, option sets, category trees that need flattening into collections, and rebuilding any B2B pricing rules.

Wix and Squarespace to Shopify

Wix and Squarespace stores usually have smaller catalogs with less structured data, so descriptions, images and page content often need cleanup during the move.

What Moves and What Needs a Plan

Shopify data migration is not all or nothing. Some records import cleanly, some need a decision, and a few cannot move at all.

How We Run a Shopify Migration

  1. Inventory (3 to 5 days). We crawl the current store with Screaming Frog, export Search Console and analytics data, and list every URL that earns traffic, links or sales. We also record product, customer and order counts as the baseline.
  2. Mapping and scope (about 1 week). We produce the data map, the redirect map, the app replacement list and a Shopify migration checklist for cutover day, and confirm the fixed price and timeline.
  3. Staging store build (1 to 4 weeks). The theme, apps and settings are built on a separate development store, then a full test import is run so you can review real products and pages.
  4. Testing (3 days to 2 weeks). We compare counts, test checkout, taxes, shipping and discounts with real orders, check redirects in bulk and review tracking in GA4 debug view.
  5. Cutover (1 day, at a quiet trading time). We run a final delta import of new orders and customers, import redirects, switch DNS at a quiet time and submit the new XML sitemap in Search Console.
  6. Post-launch monitoring (4 to 6 weeks). For the following weeks we watch crawl errors, 404s, indexing and sales, and fix issues quickly. After that, many stores move onto a Shopify maintenance plan.

Stores with large organic traffic can add our dedicated SEO migration service for deeper crawl comparisons and ranking tracking.

How to Choose a Shopify Agency for Your Migration

Choose the Shopify migration agency that asks for your Search Console data and URL list before it quotes, and that can show you a field-by-field data map. Anyone can import a product CSV. The value is in what does not break.

Small stores with little traffic can often migrate themselves with Shopify's import tools or an automated migration app. Bring in Shopify migration experts when you have organic traffic, custom fields, order history or integrations to protect, and ask each agency how it handles redirects, customer accounts, delta imports at cutover and the first 30 days after launch.

Shopify Migration Deliverables and How We Judge the Cutover

You receive every working file from the move, so the migration can be audited by anyone, now or later:

  • The field-by-field data map and the redirect map, both as spreadsheets.
  • A reconciliation report comparing product, variant, customer and order counts on the old platform and in Shopify.
  • A bulk redirect test showing every old URL returning one 301 to the right new page.
  • An app replacement list showing which plugin or extension became which Shopify app or native feature.
  • A post-launch report covering 404s, indexing, organic sessions and revenue against the pre-migration baseline.

A cutover counts as clean when counts match, no ranking URL returns a 404, test orders pass for every payment and shipping option, purchase events reach GA4 and your ad platforms once, and customers can activate their accounts. Some ranking movement while Google recrawls is normal. A lasting drop usually points to a redirect or content gap, and those are what the reports are there to catch.

Shopify Migration Mistakes That Cost Traffic and Sales

  • Redirecting everything to the home page. Google tends to treat mass home page redirects as soft 404s, so the old page's rankings are lost rather than passed on.
  • Importing orders with notifications on. Customers receive confirmation emails for orders from years ago. We switch notifications off for every historical import.
  • Dropping SEO fields. Meta titles, descriptions and image alt text are separate fields on most platforms and are easy to leave behind in the export.
  • Forgetting the delta. Orders and customers created between the test import and launch day go missing unless a final delta import is planned.
  • Leaving the storefront password on. A password-protected Shopify store cannot be crawled, so launch checks include confirming it is switched off.

Why Choose 95 Solutions for Shopify Migration

  • We move product data for a living. Our team co-builds AM Jarvis, which imports catalogs into Shopify and WooCommerce from several platforms, so field mapping and API limits are familiar ground.
  • SEO is built into the plan. We also run SEO for ecommerce stores, so the redirect map and content checks are treated as core work, not extras.
  • Senior-led and owned by you. Mustafa leads the plan on every migration, and the new store, theme code and data stay in your accounts.
  • Clear terms. Fixed price, a US LLC contract in USD, and working hours that overlap the US business day and UK business hours.

Stores That Suit a Managed Shopify Migration

A good fit

  • Stores spending too much time on hosting, plugin updates and security on WooCommerce or Magento.
  • Brands with organic traffic they cannot afford to lose during a platform change.
  • Growing stores leaving Wix or Squarespace for a platform with deeper ecommerce features.

Probably not a fit

  • Stores that rely on custom checkout logic that Shopify cannot support on their plan. We will tell you during scoping, and whether Shopify Plus would cover it.
  • Very small catalogs with no traffic to protect.

Shopify Migration questions

How much would it cost to migrate my website to Shopify?
The cost depends on catalog size, how much customer and order history moves, how many URLs need redirects and whether a new theme is part of the project. We price migrations as a fixed project after the inventory step, so the quote reflects your real data rather than a guess. The plans above show the starting point, and Shopify's own subscription and app fees are separate.
How long does a Shopify migration take?
Most migrations take 3 to 8 weeks. A small Wix or Squarespace store on an existing theme sits at the short end, while a Magento store with a large catalog, years of orders and a new custom theme sits at the long end. The timeline is confirmed after we inventory your data and URLs.
Will we lose our Google rankings when we move to Shopify?
A well-planned migration keeps rankings largely intact. We map every URL that earns traffic or links to its new address, keep content and titles, and monitor Search Console after launch. Some movement in the first weeks is normal while Google recrawls, but missing or lazy redirects are the main cause of lasting drops, and those are what we prevent.
Can customers keep their passwords?
No. Shopify does not allow password imports from other platforms. Customer records, addresses and order history move, and customers either activate their account through an email invite or sign in with Shopify’s newer customer accounts, which use a one-time email code instead of a password. We plan the email to customers as part of launch.
How do I migrate to Shopify?
Start with an inventory of your products, customers, orders and every URL that earns traffic, then map each field and URL to its Shopify equivalent. Build the new store on a separate development store while your current site keeps selling, run a full test import, and test checkout and redirects. At cutover, import the latest orders and customers and switch DNS. Small stores can use Shopify's import tools or a migration app; stores with traffic, history or custom data are safer with a managed migration.
How do I migrate from WooCommerce to Shopify?
Export products, customers and orders from WooCommerce, import them with Matrixify or the Shopify Admin API, and redirect every old URL to its new Shopify path. The URLs need the most care: WooCommerce uses /product/ and /product-category/, while Shopify uses /products/ and /collections/, and blog posts move under /blogs/. Custom fields from plugins such as Advanced Custom Fields should become Shopify metafields, and each WooCommerce plugin needs a replacement app or a decision to drop it.
How do I migrate from Magento to Shopify?
Plan the Magento to Shopify product migration first, because Magento configurable products and attribute sets do not map one to one to Shopify. Decide which attributes become variant options, which become metafields and which drive collection filters. Then move customers and orders, map customer groups to tags or Shopify B2B, and redirect every old URL, including the .html product and category addresses Magento often uses. Multi-store setups need a decision on whether each store view becomes a Shopify market or a separate store.
How do I migrate a WordPress site to Shopify?
Move the content first: pages become Shopify pages, posts move into a Shopify blog, and images are uploaded to Shopify so they are served from its CDN. Rewrite internal links inside posts to the new URLs, then add a redirect for every old address, since WordPress posts often sit at the site root while Shopify blog posts live under /blogs/. Contact forms, custom post types and plugin features need a Shopify app, a metaobject or a theme section to replace them.
