95 Solutions is a Magento development company for merchants who already run Magento and need it to be secure, fast and affordable to maintain. Magento is powerful, but that power brings complexity: a large codebase, many third-party modules, a demanding server stack and a steady stream of security patches. Stores that fall behind on any of these get slower, riskier and more expensive to change.

As a Magento 2 development company, we work on Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce. Some clients need a long-postponed upgrade. Others need a slow checkout fixed, an ERP connected, or a clear plan for whether to keep investing in Magento.

Our Magento Development Services

  • Upgrades and security patches: moving to a supported 2.4.x release, applying security patches, and upgrading PHP, OpenSearch and other stack components to supported versions.
  • Performance tuning: Varnish full-page caching, Redis for cache and sessions, indexer and cron configuration, query profiling and front-end cleanup.
  • Hyvä front-end builds: replacing the default Luma front end with a Hyvä theme, which uses Tailwind CSS and Alpine.js and ships far less JavaScript.
  • Magento 1 to Magento 2 migration: data moved with the official Data Migration Tool, the theme and extensions rebuilt for Magento 2, and every old URL mapped to a 301 redirect.
  • Multi-store setup: several websites, store views, languages or currencies run from one Magento installation, with shared or separate catalogs.
  • Custom Magento development services: business logic written as proper Magento modules using plugins and observers, rather than core edits that break on the next upgrade. Larger module and integration builds are covered on our Magento extension development page.
  • Extension audits: reviewing third-party modules for conflicts, abandoned code and security issues, then removing, replacing or patching them.
  • Integrations: ERP, PIM, OMS, shipping and marketing platforms connected through Magento's REST and GraphQL APIs or message queues.
  • Ongoing support: monthly security patching, monitoring, extension updates and fixes through our Magento support services.
  • Re-platforming: moving from Magento to another platform when the numbers support it, including Magento to Shopify migration.

How We Deliver Magento Development

  1. Technical audit (1 to 2 weeks). We review composer.json, custom code in app/code, theme overrides, third-party modules, patch level, PHP version and the hosting stack. We also profile key pages and the checkout. You get a written report ranking issues by risk and effort.
  2. Roadmap and estimate (about 1 week). We turn the audit into a phased plan: security first, then stability, then speed and features. Each phase gets a clear scope and fixed estimate.
  3. Local and staging environments (about 1 week). We set up Docker-based local environments that mirror production and a staging server with a sanitized copy of your data. Nothing is changed directly on the live store.
  4. Development and review (2 to 12 weeks per phase). Work happens in Git branches with code review before merge. Upgrades are rehearsed on staging, including a full run of setup:upgrade, dependency compilation and static content deployment.
  5. Deployment and monitoring (release window, then 1 to 2 weeks of close watch). We deploy in a planned window with maintenance mode kept as short as possible, then watch error logs, cron, indexers and order flow closely for the first days.

Magento Development Deliverables and What a Stable Store Looks Like

  • Technical audit report. Version and patch level, PHP and service versions, custom modules, theme overrides, third-party extensions with their status, and performance findings, each ranked by risk and effort.
  • Phased roadmap with fixed estimates. Security, stability, speed and feature work in order, so you can approve one phase at a time.
  • Reproducible environments. A Docker-based local setup and a staging server any developer can use, documented in the repository.
  • Clean code in your Git repository. Custom logic as modules, composer dependencies locked, and a deployment process written down step by step.
  • Release notes and rollback plan. What changed in each deployment, how it was tested, and how to roll back if needed.

A stable Magento store is on a supported 2.4.x release with current security patches, runs a supported PHP version, has cron and indexers running on schedule, keeps full-page cache hit rates high, and lets staff save products in the admin without long waits. Front-end improvements show up in Core Web Vitals field data in Search Console over the following weeks. We report against those measures; we do not promise revenue or ranking changes from technical work.

Hyvä or Luma: Choosing a Magento Front End

Luma is the default Magento 2 theme, built on RequireJS, Knockout.js and jQuery. It works with almost every extension out of the box, but ships a lot of JavaScript and is hard to make fast on phones. Hyvä replaces that front end with Tailwind CSS and Alpine.js, which usually means far less JavaScript and simpler templates.

FactorLuma-based themeHyvä theme
Front-end weightHeavy, many JavaScript filesLight, minimal JavaScript
Extension compatibilityWorks with most extensions as shippedNeeds Hyvä-compatible versions or compatibility modules for front-end features
Developer skillsWidely known Magento front-end stackTailwind and Alpine.js, quicker for developers who know them
CheckoutDefault Luma checkoutLuma checkout fallback or a separate Hyvä checkout
Best forStores with many front-end extensions and no budget for a rebuildStores where mobile speed matters and a front-end rebuild is planned

We check every installed extension for Hyvä compatibility before recommending the switch, because an incompatible extension can add weeks to a project.

Stay on Magento, Upgrade, or Re-Platform?

We do not assume every Magento store should stay on Magento. Here is how we frame the decision with clients.

SituationWhat we usually recommend
Complex B2B pricing, multi-store setups or deep ERP integration that works wellStay on Magento, get current on patches and invest in performance
Store is several versions behind with heavy custom code and many modulesAudit first; an upgrade may cost as much as a rebuild, so compare both
Straightforward catalog, small team, high maintenance spendConsider Shopify development or BigCommerce development
Content-led store with a modest catalogA WooCommerce build may be simpler to run
Still on Magento 1Move now; Magento 1 reached end of life in June 2020 and no longer gets official security patches

How we compare running costs

We add up what the store costs to run over three years on each option: hosting and services such as OpenSearch and Varnish, extension renewals, developer time for security patches and version upgrades, and any license fees. For a hosted platform we add the subscription, app fees, transaction fees where they apply and the one-off cost of migration, including SEO redirects and rebuilt integrations. Comparing those totals side by side, with the features each option would lose or gain, usually makes the decision clear. Adobe also publishes a lifecycle policy with end-of-support dates for each 2.4.x release, so we plan upgrades against those dates rather than waiting for a patch to fail.

Common Magento Problems We Fix

  • Full-page cache disabled or misconfigured, so every page request hits PHP and the database.
  • Indexers stuck on "Update on Save" with a large catalog, making admin saves painfully slow.
  • Cron not running reliably, which quietly breaks emails, indexing and scheduled price rules.
  • Core files edited directly, which blocks upgrades until the changes are rebuilt as modules.
  • Dozens of extensions that each add JavaScript and database queries to every page.
  • Deployments done by uploading files over FTP, with no record of what changed or a way to roll back.

Magento Website Development Services by Store Type

  • B2B manufacturers and distributors. Customer-specific pricing, quick order by SKU, company accounts and ERP sync. Adobe Commerce includes native B2B modules; on Open Source we use extensions or custom modules.
  • Automotive and parts retailers. Very large catalogs with fitment or compatibility data, layered navigation tuned in OpenSearch, and import pipelines from supplier feeds.
  • Multi-brand and multi-region retailers. Several websites and store views on one installation, with shared stock and separate pricing, languages and currencies.
  • Merchants with complex products. Configurable and bundle products, custom options and product builders that need careful indexing to stay fast.

How to Choose a Magento Development Agency

Rankings of the top Magento development companies rarely tell you who can fix your store. Magento rewards specialists and punishes shortcuts, so judge any Magento web development company on how it works rather than on its logo wall:

  • Audit before estimate. A serious agency will not quote a big upgrade without reviewing your code, modules and patch level first.
  • Upgrade-safe code. Ask how customizations are built. The answer should be modules, plugins and observers, never edits to core files.
  • Front-end approach. Ask whether they build on Hyvä or Luma and why, since this choice drives speed and future cost.
  • Deployment discipline. Look for Git, code review, staging rehearsals and a rollback plan.
  • Honesty about re-platforming. An agency that only works on Magento has little reason to tell you when Shopify or BigCommerce would cost less.

Why Choose 95 Solutions as Your Magento Development Company

  • Platform-neutral advice. We build on Magento, Shopify, WooCommerce and BigCommerce, so our recommendation is not tied to one platform.
  • Commercial context. Mustafa has been Head of Marketing for a Florida-based resort wear brand since 2016 and leads strategy on every account, so technical priorities are weighed against revenue impact.
  • Senior-led and hands-on. Strategy is led by our founder, with 11+ years in digital marketing and a computer science degree.
  • You own the code. Repositories, servers and Adobe or Magento accounts stay in your name, and our work is documented. More on contracts in our agency FAQ.
  • Predictable engagement. Work begins with a discovery sprint, contracts are in USD through our US LLC, and our hours cover the US business day and overlap the UK.

Is Our Magento Work a Fit for Your Store?

A good fit if you:

  • Run a Magento 2 store that is behind on upgrades or patches.
  • Have a slow storefront or admin and need someone to find the real cause.
  • Need custom features or integrations built as clean, upgrade-safe modules.
  • Are weighing whether to stay on Magento and want an unbiased assessment.

Probably not a fit if you:

  • Are starting a brand-new store with a simple catalog; Magento is rarely the most cost-effective starting point.
  • Need 24/7 on-call operations for an enterprise store; that is better handled by a dedicated in-house or managed hosting team.

Magento Development Pricing

Our Magento website development services start with a paid discovery sprint that covers the technical audit and roadmap, with the fee credited to the build if you go ahead. Upgrades, features and other Magento 2 development services are then quoted as fixed-price phases, and ongoing work can run on a monthly retainer.

Cost depends most on how far behind the store is on versions, the amount of custom code and the number of third-party extensions, whether the front end moves to Hyvä, the number of websites and store views, and the integrations to rebuild or test. Hosting, Adobe Commerce licensing and extension licenses are billed to you by their providers.

Every build starts with a paid Discovery Sprint that ends in a fixed quote. The fee is credited to the build if you go ahead.

Magento Development questions

What is Magento?
Magento is an open-source ecommerce platform written in PHP, used mainly by mid-size and large stores that need complex catalogs, B2B features or several storefronts run from one admin. Adobe now owns it and sells the licensed edition as Adobe Commerce, while Magento Open Source stays free. The current version is Magento 2. Magento 1 reached end of life in June 2020 and no longer receives security patches, so any store still on it should plan an upgrade or a re-platform.
What does a Magento developer do?
A Magento developer builds, upgrades and maintains Magento stores. Day to day that means writing custom modules, customizing themes, installing and patching extensions, connecting ERP and shipping systems through the APIs, and tuning the server stack of PHP, MySQL, OpenSearch, Varnish and Redis. On our projects, the same developers also handle upgrade rehearsals on staging, deployments and post-launch monitoring of cron, indexers and orders.
Who developed Magento?
Magento was created by Varien, the company founded by Roy Rubin and Yoav Kutner, and first released in 2008. eBay acquired it in 2011, sold it to a private equity firm in 2015, and Adobe bought it in 2018. The paid edition is now sold as Adobe Commerce, while Magento Open Source remains the free edition that many merchants still run, so both names describe the same core platform.
What is the difference between Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce?
Magento Open Source is the free, self-hosted edition. Adobe Commerce is the licensed edition, available on-premises or on Adobe Commerce Cloud, and adds features such as B2B tools, advanced content staging, customer segmentation and Adobe support. Both share the same core codebase, so our development approach is similar, but licensing and hosting costs differ significantly.
How much does Magento cost?
Magento Open Source is free to download, so its cost is hosting, extensions, development and maintenance, which tend to run higher than on hosted platforms because you manage the server stack and apply security patches yourself. Adobe Commerce adds a license fee that Adobe quotes based largely on your annual sales. For a realistic budget, add up hosting, extension renewals and developer time for patches and upgrades. Our development work is priced as shown in the plans above.
How do I upgrade Magento?
Upgrade on a copy first. Clone the store to staging, update the Magento packages with Composer, check every third-party extension for a compatible release, run bin/magento setup:upgrade and recompile, then test checkout, integrations and admin flows before repeating the steps in production during a quiet window. A store on a recent 2.4 release with few customizations can often be upgraded in 2 to 4 weeks including testing, while stores several versions behind with heavy custom code can take 6 to 12 weeks.
Should we move from Magento to Shopify?
Sometimes. If your catalog and processes are fairly standard and maintenance costs keep rising, Shopify often reduces cost and effort. If you rely on complex B2B pricing, multi-store configurations or deep integrations that work well today, staying on Magento can be the better choice. We look at your setup and costs before recommending either.
Can you work on Magento code another agency wrote?
Yes, and most Magento work we do is on existing stores. The technical audit maps custom modules, overrides and third-party extensions so we understand the codebase before changing it. If previous work edited core files, we flag it and plan how to rebuild it as proper modules.
