Dashboard development services exist because most businesses already have the data and still cannot answer simple questions quickly. Revenue lives in Shopify or Stripe, leads in HubSpot, spend in Google Ads and Meta, and margin in a spreadsheet updated on Fridays. By the time the numbers are stitched together, the week is gone.
Our business dashboard development fixes that: one place, refreshed on a schedule, with metric definitions everyone signed off. Dashboards are part of our web application development work, and our team is building custom dashboards for clients now, alongside the reporting screens inside our own CMS.
Our Dashboard Development Services
- Custom reporting dashboard: a web dashboard built in code on top of your own database, for when BI tools cannot handle the layout, permissions, actions or embedding you need. The app layer is usually Laravel or plain PHP 8, built by our PHP development team.
- Business intelligence dashboard: Power BI or Metabase reports on a modeled data store, for finance and operations teams who want to filter and slice data themselves.
- Power BI dashboard development: data models, DAX measures, row-level security and scheduled refresh through the Power BI service, set up in your Microsoft tenant.
- Tableau dashboard development: workbooks, calculated fields and data sources published to Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server, for teams that already license Tableau.
- Customer-facing dashboards: analytics embedded in your product or a customer portal, where each customer sees only their own data.
- Marketing performance dashboards: blended ad spend, revenue and return by channel. For Looker Studio reporting on GA4 and ad platforms, see our marketing dashboard service.
- The data pipeline behind the charts: scheduled jobs that pull from each source, clean the data and load it into a reporting database, built with our API integration services.
Our Dashboard Development Process
Every custom reporting dashboard follows these five steps, whichever tool it ends up in.
- Write the metric dictionary (week 1). Every KPI gets a written formula, source system, owner and refresh schedule. This settles the arguments that break dashboards later, such as whether revenue is gross or net of refunds, and whether an order counts on the order date or the ship date.
- Audit the data and build the pipeline (weeks 1 to 3). We check each source for gaps, duplicates and missing IDs, then build extraction jobs into a reporting database such as PostgreSQL or BigQuery. Transformations are written in SQL, often with dbt, so the logic is versioned and readable.
- Design around decisions (weeks 2 to 3). Each screen answers questions someone asks every week. The top row shows a few KPIs against target, the middle shows trends, and the bottom holds the drill-down tables where people find the reason behind a number.
- Build and reconcile (weeks 3 to 5). Before anyone sees a chart, we compare dashboard totals with the source systems for a sample period, line by line. If the dashboard and Shopify disagree by even a handful of orders, we find out why and fix it before launch.
- Launch with alerts and training (final week). Refreshes run on a schedule, failed refreshes send an alert, and access is granted by role. Your team gets a short recorded walkthrough of every screen and the metric dictionary as a shared document.
Those timings fit two or three data sources on a BI platform. A custom dashboard app with logins, roles and embedded views runs 6 to 10 weeks, because it is a small web application in its own right.
Dashboard Development Deliverables and What Success Looks Like
| Deliverable | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Metric dictionary | Every KPI with its formula, source, owner and refresh schedule in a shared document, so meetings argue about decisions instead of definitions. |
| Data pipeline and reporting database | Scheduled jobs and SQL models in your cloud account and Git repository, readable by any analyst or developer. |
| Reconciliation report | A side-by-side check of dashboard totals against each source for a sample period, with every difference explained. |
| Dashboard screens | Built in your BI tenant or as a web app, with filters, drill-downs and exports agreed in the design step. |
| Access and security setup | Roles, row-level security where needed, and a list of who can see what. |
| Refresh monitoring | Alerts when a source fails to load, so stale numbers never reach a meeting unnoticed. |
| Training recording | A walkthrough of every screen and how to answer the most common questions with it. |
A dashboard succeeds when people stop building their own spreadsheets. In practice we look for three signs a few weeks after launch: the weekly report is pulled from the dashboard instead of being assembled by hand, totals match the source systems within the tolerance you agreed, and the team uses the drill-downs to find causes rather than asking an analyst. If any of those is missing, we find out why and adjust.

Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio or a Custom Dashboard App?
A business intelligence dashboard usually starts in a BI tool and only moves to custom code when the tool's limits start costing time. We recommend the cheapest option that meets the requirement.
| Option | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Looker Studio | Marketing reporting on Google sources such as GA4, Google Ads and Search Console. | Slows down on large blended datasets and offers limited permission control. |
| Power BI | Organizations on Microsoft 365, finance teams and self-serve analysis. | Per-user licensing, and embedding reports for external customers needs dedicated Power BI Embedded capacity. |
| Tableau | Analysts who need deep visual exploration and already hold Tableau licenses. | Per-user licensing, plus Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server to publish and share. |
| Metabase | Teams comfortable with SQL that want open-source BI they host themselves. | Someone has to host, update and secure it. |
| Custom dashboard app | Customer-facing analytics, dashboards inside your product, or screens where users take action on the data. | Higher build cost, and the code needs maintenance like any other app. |

Dashboard Mistakes We Fix
- Thirty charts and no answer. We cut to the metrics tied to decisions and move the rest into drill-downs.
- The same metric calculated two ways. When sales and finance each built their own report, revenue never matches. One definition, one calculation, used everywhere.
- Time zone mismatches. Ad platforms, stores and CRMs often report in different account time zones, so daily totals drift. We normalize to one reporting time zone.
- Live API calls on every page load. Querying vendor APIs each time someone opens the dashboard is slow and hits rate limits. We load data into a reporting store on a schedule.
- No owner. Dashboards break quietly when a source changes. We set up refresh alerts and name an owner for each data source.
- Vanity metrics on the top row. Page views and follower counts look good but rarely change a decision. The top row should hold the few numbers someone is accountable for, shown against a target.
- Charts nobody can filter. A total with no way to break it down by channel, region or product forces people back into exports. Every headline number should drill down to the records behind it.
- Refunds and cancellations ignored. Revenue that never subtracts refunds, chargebacks or cancelled orders overstates performance, especially after big promotions. We model them explicitly.
Custom Analytics Dashboards by Industry
The metrics change from one business to the next, but the hard parts are usually the same few joins between systems. These are the custom business dashboards we are asked for most often:
- Ecommerce. Revenue, orders, refunds and margin from Shopify or WooCommerce, joined with ad spend from Google Ads and Meta to show blended acquisition cost and contribution margin by channel and product.
- Agencies and consultancies. Client-facing reporting with one login per client, plus an internal view of hours, budgets and account health across every client.
- SaaS. Signups, trial conversion, monthly recurring revenue, churn and expansion from Stripe and your product database, with cohorts that finance and product both trust.
- Field and home services. Jobs booked, completed and invoiced, technician utilization and lead source by job value, pulled from scheduling and accounting tools.
- Finance and operations. Cash, receivables and stock positions from accounting and inventory systems, refreshed daily instead of at month end.
Dashboard Development Company, Freelancer or In-House Analyst?
| Option | Works well when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| In-house data analyst | You have steady reporting needs and enough questions to keep one person busy every week | Analysts often inherit pipeline and engineering work they were not hired for |
| Freelance BI developer | One BI tool, clean sources and a clearly defined report | Who fixes the pipeline when a vendor API changes six months later |
| Dashboard development company | Several sources, metric disagreements to settle, or dashboards inside a product or portal | Make sure the code, models and BI workspace end up in your accounts |
A good pattern is to have us build the pipeline, models and first dashboards, then hand day-to-day report changes to an analyst on your team who already understands the business.
Dashboard Access, Security and Data Privacy
Dashboards concentrate sensitive data in one place, so access is designed before the first chart. We apply role-based access and row-level security so a regional manager or an external client only sees their own records. Personal data such as customer names and emails is left out of reporting tables unless a screen genuinely needs it. Where your organization uses Microsoft Entra ID or Google Workspace, logins go through that identity provider, and every export of raw data can be logged.
Why Choose 95 Solutions as Your Dashboard Development Company
- We build reporting into our own products. The CMS behind this site and Boiler Decoder includes cookie-free analytics and Search Console keyword reporting in its admin, and AM Jarvis includes a rank tracker. We know what it takes to keep numbers right over months, not just on launch day.
- We understand marketing data. Mustafa has 11+ years in digital marketing, so attribution windows, ROAS and blended acquisition cost are familiar ground, not jargon to research.
- You own the dashboard and the data. Reports, databases and code sit in your accounts. Nothing stops working if you stop working with us.
- Senior-led, with overlapping hours. Strategy is led by our founder, and the team works across the full US business day and UK business hours.
Who Our Dashboard Development Services Suit
A good fit
- Companies pulling weekly numbers from three or more systems by hand.
- Ecommerce brands that want revenue, ad spend and margin in one view.
- Agencies and service firms that want to give clients their own live reporting.
- Teams already paying for Power BI who never got a working data model.
Probably not a fit
- Businesses whose only data source is GA4. The free Looker Studio connector is usually enough.
- Teams without agreement on what their KPIs are. We can help define them, but the project starts there, not with charts.
Dashboard Development Pricing
Dashboard projects are quoted at a fixed price based on the number of data sources, screens and user roles, plus the state of the data: sources with missing IDs or inconsistent records need cleaning rules before anything is charted. A reporting dashboard on existing BI tools sits at the lower end, while a custom dashboard app or client portal with embedded analytics costs more because it is a full web application. Ongoing changes can run on a monthly retainer.
